Presidential Elections

My Leadership students are currently voting for their president. This president will represent the class for various activities, kinda like a rep. So this is really not a power position ('cause everyone knows MY position is teh on3 wit da P0w3rz!!)

It's interesting to see who really wants to be president... and what they will do to become president. Some I wouldn't even think of being a president, mostly because I haven't had a chance to see them in that kind of role.

Hands off!

When the States start fiddling with issues like abortion, you know it will trickle through the border and start seeping into the mind of some Conservative Party member who will then claim that if the US did it, then why shouldn't we? (we being Canadians).

All I can say is hands off my body... no government can tell a woman whether she is allowed to have an abortion or not. Yeah, I know, there are women who abuse the system, but if they want to screw up their bodies, by all means, may they do so.

As far as the abortion link to breast cancer... what a bunch of poopoo!

*crosses fingers* I have trustworthy students

I had a very important call to make to the bank... leaving students all alone in class can be down right suicidal for some teachers, very illegal generally, but with my grade 11 students, I pretty much know that hell won't be breaking loose, at least not today.

I trust these kids and that's good.

Today was a bad day...

Everything went wrong in all possible ways. The photographer for the grad pic retakes showed up very late ( late afternoon instead of early morning), my ethics class was being very uncooperative and I didn't get to do what I planned to do in French class... yeah, for some it's nothing, but when you have to teach and put out 3 fires at once, it's a nightmare.

I almost felt like Carlo...

Anonymous Personality Posters and other chaotic things

Yesterday my Leadership class had their APP activity (held in every homeroom) and things went pretty well: no maimings, no dismemberments and no deaths... and was just in my Leadership class itself! But if you consider the entire school, all 875 kids, weirdos, animals and spazzes and all, it was a great activity that brought each homeroom closer together. We have many creative students who can create many positive works of art. So what if you have a few idiots here and there. Did we get through the day without any major incident? I can answer yes so I am happy.

There were however some details that need tweeking: warning cafeteria staff about the schedule change, letting parents know that their kids won't be home at the same time for lunch, reminding teachers about their duty schedule change... a whole bunch of little fine tunings that canmake this activity even better.

I wish I could say the same about the state of our current plan of action towards a new collective agreement. I don't think fine tunings will be enough. Teachers voted for 3 strike days and I'm not too happy about that. I can see people already taking sides and it irks me. Some our getting on our principal's case and that irks me even more. Mrs. Andrews is doing so much to accomodate us, she is showing her support and there are staff members who openly criticize her. I want to close my eyes and wake up knowing that all of this is over. Bleh. I sense much Chaos coming very soon and this kind of chaos is not pretty. Not even a bit.

It's going to be a long week...

One could figure I am being sarcastic with that comment seeing as, with the caretakers' strike on Thursday and our convention day on Friday, it will only be a 3 day week. But there will be so many things to do from now until Friday, either I will go mad from all the chaos (just like Môôssieu Carlôô, only more feminine) or... I will go mad because of the lack of work. In either situation, it's insanity, so I might as well pull an Arthur Dent and just go mad now. Gaaaa!

More from the Leadership class: a nice little pic of what happens behind the scene...

Strike days looming ahead

Bleh... there is a strong chance that we will be voting for a strike mandate. I use the polite, general "we", because I am not for it on a economical level which seems to be the level that controls my life at this moment. Philosophically, there must be some stronger action taken since there is nothing happenning at the negociations table.

In the meantime, I teach, I laugh, I play CoV, which I did last night and had some fun with Môôssieu Carlôô... Someone has to teach Soul Crusher that he can't go around slapping folks around, especially Sonic Cacophony's tuckus... hehe ;-P Iloveya Carlôô, yer a hoot and a half!

Been a while...

I haven't posted in a while and I can already hear Môôssieu Carlo cursing... or maybe not... it could just be that it's his normal daily routine: sip coffee, curse at some inept minion at work, sip more coffee...

It has been busy. I haven't been lazy, despite rumors to the contrary. My Leadership students organized some fine Halloween activities and it was great. A movie and a costume contest, supervized by the Leadership class. They always amaze me: no matter how crazy they can be (case in point, check out Caitlyn and Katie, vamping it up in homeroom), they show great patience and resourcefulness when they actually have to be in charge of an activity.

Right now, we are trying to organize a homeroom activity... I'm still fuzzy on the details, it's a student's creation, Dave's, and I am hoping it works out well. It has to do with self-esteem, personalized posters and cut-out letters from magazines. I'm letting his team work it out. They have about 1 week to get everything ready. Start praying folks... hehe.
