Teaching... in all it's beautiful, chaotic and often insane glory

Summer censorship

I have been busy lately (afterall, it IS my vacation), but I still read my daily comics like a good little 12 year-old trapped in the body of a 30 year-old... and lo and behold: censorship at the Washington Post.

I sometimes read the WP for my comics because I have connection issues with comics.com... so when I saw that they refused to publish Boondocks because of content issues, I figured it was worth a visit to ucomics.com to check it out

Now, I am all for respecting family of victims and respecting the memory of the dead. Trivializing someone's death into a comic strip and comparing it to reality TV is in bad taste without a doubt...

...but...

...I work with teenagers every day. I see how much knowledge they lack when it comes to current events. They are beyond clueless when it comes to local, national and international news. If it appeared on Access or ET, then maybe they will remember. If it's mentioned by some movie star, maybe they'll remember. If it affects their own personal ego (cell phones, illicit substances...), maybe they'll remember. And if it's blasted on the news 24/7, then maybe they'll remember. When news has to compete with "reality TV", students would rather focus on the false reality. Call it ignorance, call it indifference call it even satisfying your own personal pleasures (what? getting a kick out of the news...pffffft!), kids do not watch the news. And if they do, they don't understand it.

This has got to stop

And hopefully people will understand that not all muslims are alike, that a jihad does not mean killing other people and that if we are going to solve this problem we have to be united.

Fancy shmancy incentive

Gee, I wish I had this when I was a kid... I guess kids in Britain are tougher than I thought. Maybe we should use that tactic in my school.

Just when you thought things weren't going fast enough...

...someone tells you to slow down and I feel it's about time that we all do that. Maybe it's just an excuse to justify my laziness, maybe it's a whole lot of new-age garbage, but it all points to the insanity that overwhelms our lives.

It's an awesome article.

Isn't this familiar!

It's vacation time and I am back to work. Huh? Yeah... I am helping out my hubby at work, so I have slapped on the ol' receptionist's hat and will be answering the phone for about a week or so. It isn't so bad since it's pretty easy work: phone, data entry, coffee drinking... it's almost like school but with less nagging...heh.

And you thought your school was violent...

Even though I am technically vegging out, I still keep myself informed by reading the bbc news website. I couldn't help but read this headline and figured I have nothing to complain about my school. Sure a kid brought in a pellet gun a few years back but that's nothing compared to what Thai teachers are faced with... *sigh* makes you appreciate what you've got.

Time to veg out

That's right folks, I am on vacation. Turning my brain to off and...............

...oops turned it off too early.
