What a protester should be

Rosa Parks didn't destroy public property, she didn't deface buildings, she didn't throw molotov cocktails, nor did she use violence or aggression to get her point across. When I see activists or protesters these days, I cringe. My personal belief is that protesting should be symbolic. It shouldn't be a shouting match. It should be a gesture that speaks volumes, not a curse word or an insult yelled at the top of your lungs. Being an activist should reflect the fact you want the world to be better, not worse than it already is.

Forgive the cliché, but I think the walls of silence need to be broken down. Not physically, but symbolically or maybe verbally.

If we are to strive for equality, I don't think the most effective way to do so would be trying to be superior to others (if that makes any sense).

The media has a lot of impact in this, in the sense that they often show the nasty side of protesters, the destructive, violent kind that are only there for the sake of protesting (I protest, therefore I am?)

Is there an art of activism?
